I heard that you have to put down $5 to preorder video games. exactly does that mean? You have to pay an extra 5 dollars for them to reserve it for you? Or will you get the money back after you pick the game up and buy it when it releases? Related posts:

When you place a reservation ($5) OR pre-order (pay in full) a game, they'll hold a copy for you at least 48 hours when the game is released.
funds paid will be added as “store credit” towards the game (or another purchase, should you cancel your reservation pre-order). HOWEVER, it's been in my experience with GameStop stores to pre-order the games as you'll likely get called a few days BEFORE the official release day to pick up your copy. I believe that they do this (especially with big-name games) to reduce the lines come release day as you've already paid for the game in full so they don't have to inconvenience you by waiting between others that only reserved the game still have to pay the remainder of the balance. I've gotten a few games up to 3 days BEFORE their official release day just because I pre-order them, which is an extra bonus as I got to enjoy the game before everybody else.
that helps!
