Halo 3 Question!?

I am a noob to Halo 3 and right now I am doing Ranked Lone Wolf matches because those are the only ranked matches 'i can do but i find it hard to gain xp u have to win a match to get 1 xp ppiont is this the case and if so are there any other ways? I play cod4 my gamertag is michael scott11 im lvl 17 prestige lvl 4

yeah its a ghey system, but if you throw your life away on it you can eventually gain the experience needed.
